Forget traditional weight loss programs.  According to a new study from Japan, there is a better way to lose inches. It involves online help.

According to the study, weight loss programs which have an online component have been found to be more successful than programs which do not.

Researchers discovered that online weight-loss programs can help people lose an average of two more pounds compared with individuals who did not use the Web.

The Internet was used in different ways: individualized instruction, communication with lifestyle instructors, counselling and keeping a record of food intake. However, the scientists found that the best approach is when combining both Internet and more traditional in-person methods.

The study is published in the International Journal of Obesity.
