Scientists at Harvard have identified a list of foods associated with weight gain.
Best Foods for Weight Loss:
1. Yogurt
2. Nuts
3. Fruits
4. Whole grains
5. Vegetables
Worst Foods for Weight Gain:
1. Potato chips
2. Potatoes
3. Sugar-sweetened beverages
4. Unprocessed red meats
5. Processed meats
Researchers analyzed data on the weight and eating and living habits of nearly 121,000 men and women. Participants were tracked every four years for 20 years. It was discovered that adults gain an average of almost a pound a year as they age.
They gained an average of 3.35 pounds over 4-year periods and almost 17 pounds over the two decades, says the study.
Other lifestyle factors were also found to be independently associated with weight change:
Physical activity is found to cause weight loss. But the following four factors are causing weight gain:
- Alcohol use
- Smoking
- Sleep (weight gain with less than 6 or more than 8 hours of sleep)
- Television watching
